Hispanic Small Business Owners Battle Pandemic with Reinforcements

National Hispanic Heritage Month starts Sept. 15, and the San Diego & Imperial Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network has highlighted Hispanic-owned small businesses which have been combatting pandemic fall-out for the last year and a half.

The network teams have served and are celebrating these entrepreneurs’ achievements since the beginning of the pandemic, helping 72 Hispanic-owned businesses start, assisting Hispanic business owners in gaining $33 million in capital as well as nearly $4 million in government contracts, and aiding Hispanic entrepreneurs with nearly 7,000 hours of one-on-one business advising and 31,200 hours in business trainings.

“Our teams are very honored to have served this inspiring group of people throughout San Diego and the Imperial Valley wholeheartedly since the pandemic hit as well as before—they’re vital to our region,” said Daniel Fitzgerald, acting director of the SBDC Network. “It’s our mission to be present and assist anyone who needs it, regardless of what’s going on in the world, and for free. We’re here to lift up the populations who make our economy and communities stronger and better.”
