Success Story: San Diego Air & Space Museum

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is located in San Diego’s famous Balboa Park, a center of nature, culture, and discovery. The museum’s mission is to preserve, inspire, educate, and celebrate – to preserve significant artifacts of air and space history or technology; to inspire excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; to educate about the historical and social significance of air and space technology as well as engage its promise for the future; and to celebrate aviation and space flight history or technology.

The museum’s controller, Cathy Romanas, shared how throughout the pandemic – first when she worked at a consulting firm and in 2021 at the museum – she “participated in live webinars to get information about COVID relief programs.” As the museum controller, she manages all accounting and human resources functions.

“Most recently SBDC helped me understand the SVOG (Shuttered Venue Operator’s Grant) application process. When the SVOG portal crashed on the original application opening day, I frantically reached out to Danny Fitzgerald and Joel Sedeno who explained what was happening, assuring me that I wasn’t doing anything wrong and sharing info from the SBA … You can’t go wrong reaching out to SBDC. All services I’ve used were free, and their staff were very knowledgeable, helpful and communicative.”
