Disabled veteran Efrem Venters is a founding partner of Bridgemore. He summarizes how his company helps other entities get materials from one place to another, saving time and expertise. The partners are former supply chain managers for large San Diego companies and who decided to take their own expertise on the road so they can stay local as well as assist locally. Before starting up, Efrem had 14 years’ experience plus 12 in the military. “Quite a while supporting operations,” he laughs. He was offered leadership roles at places like OtterBox and Jack in the Box but says his team “always had that passion to start our own thing. It just so worked out in 2016.”
Familiar with SBDC from a government contracting course he had taken in the past, he returned. He recalls thinking, “this is gonna be a lot of class” but it was really informative and valuable. “It’s the first call I tell people to make, to go to the SBDC.” Relying on trusted SBDC advisors as they grow their business, he also encourages his staff to take SBDC classes – for example to brush up on their sales skills and get more comfortable with a certain space.
“I mean I have not paid anything over all these years,” he says through his contagious laugh as it dawns on him again. “I feel bad saying it but no I haven’t.” He laughs again. “I haven’t paid a cent.”
