Do You Have A Small Business That We Can Help You Start or Grow?
Success Story: Threading by Ranna
Ranna Jajuu moved to San Diego as a refugee from Iraq in 2009. In 2015, Ranna opened her first business, Threading by Ranna, in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego. Threading by Ranna is a full-service salon that ranges from threading and waxing to complete hair styling. After three years of success in her Linda Vista location, Ranna opened a second location in El Cajon. She has continued to prosper with her business until recently, when COVID-19 forced her to close both locations. As a result of the closures, Ranna was unable to maintain any profits — as her business is solely based on providing services.
With the help of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) SBDC, Ranna was able to obtain $6,755 from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program. She was also recently awarded a $5,000 grant through the City of San Diego Small Business Relief Fund. The entrepreneur will be able to pay wages for staff, rent, utilities, and security services with these funds.
As businesses have started to reopen, Ranna has experienced an influx of new clients, namely from her participation in the ”We Are Open” campaign in The San Diego Union-Tribune!
