Success Story: Calexico Indoor Swap Meet
In 2018, a fire destroyed the Santo Tomas Swap Meet in Calexico, Calif., leaving in its ashes the incomes of more than 300 local vendors.
Due to a collaborative effort of the SBDC, the City of Calexico, Calexico Fire Department, County of Imperial, and U.S. Small Business Administration, the site was declared a federal disaster area which brought immediate financial relief to expedite their recovery.
Working with an ownership group comprised of 10 vendors, the SBDC helped create a complete recovery plan to get their new location, and their incomes, back on track.
