Success Story: Science Spark (USA Science & Engineering Festival)

Science Spark is a nonprofit organization that provides educational resources and inspiration to K-12 students, exciting them about science and science-related careers. Running on the motivation to inspire, the group’s mission is to stimulate and sustain the interest of our nation’s youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) – by producing and presenting the most compelling, exciting, and educational festival in the world. The USA Science & Engineering Festival serves as an open forum to showcase all facets of STEM, the group shares.

Due to the pandemic, the festival’s in-person event had to be called off. But the nonprofit managed to regroup and retool as well as take some of their programs online with the assistance of the Export SBDC at the World Trade Center San Diego. And that’s going miraculously well, they share. They add that they’re gearing up great for fall 2021 activities as well.

Science Spark additionally shares how the Export SBDC pointed them toward a lifesaving grant, which helped get the team through and for which they’re so grateful.

“The SBDC pointed us in the direction of a valuable $10,000 grant and some information to help us through the application process. We are grateful that the San Diego County Grant Program existed and that organizations like SBDC are disseminating information to small businesses like ours.”
