Do You Have A Small Business That We Can Help You Start or Grow?

Samira Art Academy

Inspired by her love of art and influenced by her cultural background and artistic style, Samira envisioned a welcoming space where individuals could explore their creativity, develop artistic skills, and gain confidence through hands-on learning. Her goal was not only to teach art but also to foster meaningful connections within the community through creative experiences. While Samira possessed extensive artistic talent and teaching experience, transitioning from artist to business owner presented new challenges.

She sought guidance from the San Diego & Imperial Small Business Development Center (SBDC), where she received strategic support that helped transform her passion into a structured and sustainable business. Working closely with SBDC advisors, Samira received assistance in organizing and defining her services, improving her marketing approach, and developing a strategy for growth. The advising helped her expand beyond traditional art instruction and create a diverse portfolio of offerings, including workshops, enrichment programs, camps, and special events such as birthday parties. These programs are now conducted at local recreation centers, libraries, and community centers, allowing her to reach a broader audience while increasing community engagement.

One of the most valuable aspects of the assistance was the personalized support provided throughout the business development process. Because English is Samira’s second language, SBDC advisors took extra time to ensure communication was clear and culturally sensitive. They assisted with business terminology, marketing materials, emails, and other communications, helping her confidently navigate the business landscape. As a result of the guidance she received, Samira has built a stronger business foundation, expanded her customer base, and created multiple opportunities for consistent revenue through recurring classes and workshops. Today, she continues to enrich the local community through art while growing a business that reflects her creativity, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit.
